Samsung is rolling out multiple updates across the Galaxy ecosystem this month. In addition to the latest May 2026 security patch, the company is rapidly expanding the One UI 8.5 rollout while continuing One UI 9 Beta testing. Now, Samsung phones are also beginning to receive the May 2026 Google Play system update, bringing fresh security enhancements and new Android feature improvements.
May 2026 Google Play system update arrives on Galaxy phones
Unlike full firmware updates, Google Play system updates are delivered directly through Google’s Play infrastructure. These updates improve core Android components, security features, and system services without requiring a full OS upgrade from Samsung. The May 2026 release introduces several new AI-powered features, gaming improvements, and security upgrades for Android devices.
Google has expanded game-related discussions and tips to more languages, while AI Overview and Ask Play now deliver enhanced search results for sports, media, and entertainment content on the Play Store. Users can also preview manga and webtoons directly from supported app pages and see content from installed apps directly inside search and discovery sections.
Additionally, this update adds Gemini integration for security settings, live translation for public safety broadcasts, improved Family Link controls, enhanced Advanced Protection support, and automatic scam-call protection against fake bank calls. There are many other improvements across the system, enhancing the daily Android experience. Some changes may require separate app updates, though.
As reported by Tarun Vats, the May 2026 Google Play system update is now reaching several Samsung devices. While the rollout appears to be moving quickly, availability is still expanding gradually across regions and models. Users can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Google Play system update. You need to restart your device to complete the installation.
