No, Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition isn’t Samsung’s Upcoming Slim Foldable

by | Oct 1, 2024 | Galaxy Z, News

Samsung recently listed the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition on its official business website in India, confusing a few people. It appeared like the device was the long-rumored slim foldable the company has in the pipeline. But it isn’t. The device in question is the regular Fold 6 launched in July. The listing refers to the two special colorways only available on Samsung’s official website.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition isn’t new, it has been always available

Samsung has a habit of offering its flagship phones in special colors via its website. It releases a few colors widely across all third-party channels but keeps some to itself. The firm did the same with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It offered the foldable in Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow colors via all retail channels. However, the Crafted Black and While colors were limited to its official website.

If you purchased the Galaxy Z Fold 6 through Samsung’s website, you could pick any of the five colors depending on the stock availability. All options have been available in most global markets since the launch in July. For some reason, the company decided to list the two exclusive colors separately on its business website in India and call it the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition.

The website also has a Galaxy Z Flip 6 Special Edition, similarly separating its exclusive colors from the widely available ones. However, some people mistook the Fold’s listing for Samsung’s long-rumored rumored slim foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold SE (Special Edition) — note that it’s called “Fold SE” rather than “Fold 6 SE”. The company has it in the pipeline but may not release it globally.

The slim foldable is substantially thinner and lighter than the regular Fold 6. It is bigger too, allowing Samsung to keep a sizeable battery in a slim profile. The company may release it in China and South Korea in late October. It is the Korean firm’s answer to super-slim Chinese foldables. Hopefully, next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 will bring similar design improvements globally.
