Samsung’s One UI 8.0 Could Arrive Early Thanks to Google

by | Oct 1, 2024 | News, One UI

Samsung has taken longer than usual to release the One UI 7.0 beta this year. We’ve landed in October and the beta program is still nowhere in sight — One UI 6.0 beta began in August last year. Google’s delayed release of Android 15 could be one of the reasons. Thankfully, there’s good news on this front. Fresh evidence suggests Android 16 may launch earlier than expected, possibly giving us One UI 8.0 early.

Android 16 shift might help Samsung launch One UI 8.0 early

According to renowned Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Google might release Android 16 as early as the second quarter of 2025. He spotted multiple pieces of evidence in the Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) for Android 15. The tentative timeline of “25Q2” was mentioned twice, suggesting that it isn’t a typo. Rahman explained the technical tidbits of this discovery in a lengthy post on Android Authority.

Usually, a new version of Android arrives in the third quarter (launched between August and the first week of October since Android 6 in 2015), so this is a pretty huge change. If Android 16 launches early — by June 2025, based on this leaked schedule — other manufacturers could also expedite the optimization of their devices. Samsung could speed up the development of One UI 8.0 and release it early.

As we saw this year, a delayed release of Android from Google can massively impact other vendors. If this materializes, the entire Android fraternity benefits, including Galaxy users. Samsung fans are already disappointed with the delayed release of the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 beta. It may finally arrive this month, though the company has yet to officially confirm anything.

Samsung’s annual Developer Conference is scheduled for October 3. The company might provide an update on the One UI 7.0 beta program’s release timeline. We will keep you posted with all the announcements at the event as it happens, so stay tuned.
