If you’ve ever been stuck endlessly scrolling YouTube Shorts, or you just don’t like YouTube Shorts at all, this might be the update you’ve been waiting for. After pushing short-form content hard for years and after so many requests, YouTube finally listened and is rolling out a new feature that lets you completely disable Shorts, or get as close as possible you want to it.
YouTube is now rolling out an update that builds on the Shorts timer feature introduced earlier. With this update, you can set your Shorts usage to 0 minutes, which essentially removes the infinite scrolling experience.
Once enabled, YouTube Shorts won’t keep playing endlessly. You’ll hit a limit instantly, and the app stops feeding you more Shorts content. It’s not a full removal from the app, but for most users, it’s close enough.
Here’s how to turn off YouTube Shorts
If the feature is available on your device, here’s how you can do it:
- Open the YouTube app
- Go to the “You” tab
- Tap on Settings
- Look for “Time management.”
- Find the “Shorts feed limit” and toggle it on
- Set the limit to 0 minutes
Once done, YouTube Shorts will basically stop showing in your feed. Open the Shorts tab, and you’ll instantly hit a message: “You reached your Shorts feed limit.” Just go back to the Home tab, and that’s it.

This feature is still rolling out, so not everyone will have it right away. Make sure your YouTube app is updated if you don’t see it, and check again after a few days. I checked, and it’s available on my phone, but others might not have received this update yet.
YouTube Shorts has been one of the most aggressive pushes in recent years, but not everyone wants it. YouTube is all about long-form content, and I personally prefer it over short-form videos. This update is something people have been asking for a while, and now, YouTube has finally listened.
