Your Galaxy May Receive Over 40 Security Fixes with One UI 7.0 Update

by | Feb 4, 2025 | News, Updates

Big things are expected from Samsung’s software update department this month. The long-awaited One UI 7.0 update might finally arrive, possibly bundled with the latest security patch. We already know what One UI 7.0 brings to the Galaxy family, and we now have details about the February security patch as well. Samsung recently published its updated security bulletin with patch details.

Samsung details the February security update ahead of the One UI 7.0 rollout

Every month, Samsung pushes dozens of security patches to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets. These patches include fixes for Android OS flaws released by Google, as well as several Galaxy-specific fixes. As usual, the February 2025 security update for the Galaxy family contains over 40 vulnerability fixes.

The total includes 35 Android OS patches and 7 Galaxy patches. Google addresses 1 critical and 34 high-severity flaws across various Android components this month. The lone critical flaw could pave the way for more damaging attacks. Some of those patches actually address issues in partner components and are released by the respective vendors. Google lists those under its monthly ASB (Android Security Bulletin).

As far as the Galaxy-specific patches are concerned, three of those address high-severity flaws, while Samsung also patched a moderate Galaxy flaw this month. The remaining three haven’t been disclosed yet due to security reasons — to avoid potential abuse by threat actors before the affected users could install the patch. This is a standard practice when detailing newly released security patches.

As of this writing, Samsung hasn’t rolled out the February security update, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to any Galaxy device. As mentioned above, the company might bundle it with the One UI 7.0 update for some devices. Others might receive the latest security patch separately. We will keep a close eye on Samsung’s server and let you know when we have more information about One UI 7.0 and the February SMR.
