When Samsung announced the Galaxy Ring at July Unpacked 2024, an exec teased, “We’re putting the ability to control your health back into your hands, literally.” But if a recently published patent is anything to go by, Samsung might have bigger plans for the Galaxy Ring. Honestly, it’s already one of the best smart rings out there. But what if it could do even more… Like control what’s on my screen or share files with gestures? Perhaps that could be coming soon, based on this patent.
Galaxy Ring could move data and control screens, reveals Samsung patent
A newly published Samsung patent (via 91Mobiles) reveals the company is exploring the possibility of letting Galaxy Ring users transfer data between devices. This feature could make its debut with the Galaxy Ring 2, which might release as early as this year. There’s also a chance it could come as a software update for the original Galaxy Ring, but that’s just speculation for now. Samsung publishes a lot of patents, and not all of them make it to the final product, but the fact they’re considering this is exciting.

If it happens, it would give users more control over their devices and how they sync with each other. It could turn the Galaxy Ring into more than just a fitness tracker, making it a practical tool for managing your connected devices. The patent images show what looks like a Galaxy Book and Galaxy Tab, with someone wearing the Galaxy Ring pointing at one device while interacting with another. It seems like they’re selecting something on one device and moving it to another.
How exactly this will work remains unclear, but all three devices (including the Galaxy Ring) will likely need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If this feature comes to the Galaxy Ring 2 or later models, I’m really hoping Samsung lets me use it like a mouse. Doing so, I can easily pull a Tony Stark.
