WhatsApp Is Phasing Out Its Avatar Feature

WhatsApp is phasing out its avatar feature, a tool that allowed users to create digital versions of themselves. This change is happening gradually, so not all users are impacted at the same time. The company may have seen limited engagement with the feature, leading to its discontinuation.
You will lose access to the Avatar feature on WhatsApp
Back in 2022, WhatsApp introduced an avatar feature to let you express yourself in a personalized way. You could create your digital character with combinations of diverse hairstyles, facial features, and outfits. The app also allowed you to set the avatar as your profile photo and use it in chats as a sticker.
However, WhatsApp is now removing avatars on both iOS and Android. “You can no longer create new avatars. Soon, you won’t be able to edit avatars, and they will be removed from your profile. Your existing avatar stickers will still be available to use,” the company wrote in Help Center.
This means that even though you lose the avatar, previously created stickers may work in chats. Since the company is rolling out the change slowly, you may still have access to it for now. In some cases, the app shows an alert message, notifying users that avatar editing will no longer be available.
To check whether this change has reached your account, simply head to the avatar section in your settings. Furthermore, if you were using an avatar, you may see it removed from the profile section. WhatsApp has not shared an exact end date for the rollout, though it should complete the phase-out in the coming weeks.
So, why has WhatsApp taken this move? There is no official explanation yet. However, reports suggest that the decision may be tied to low usage of the avatar tool. It could also help keep the interface clean and easy to use.
