It looks like we finally have some new details about Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device, possibly the Galaxy G Fold. So far, we know that Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 at its next Unpacked event in July. However, some sources suggest the tri-fold device might not be part of the show. Samsung briefly teased the silhouette of its tri-fold device during the January Unpacked event but didn’t reveal much else. Now, a new report provides more details, including the Galaxy tri-fold’s purported codename.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy tri-fold codename could be Q7M

According to the Dutch publication GalaxyClub, Samsung is working on two foldable phones under the Galaxy Z Fold 7 lineup, codenamed Q7 and Q7M. While Q7 is confirmed to be the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Q7M is believed to be the tri-fold model. Additionally, two model numbers — SM-F966 and SM-F968 — surfaced last year. SM-F966 is linked to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Meanwhile SM-F968 is widely speculated to belong to the upcoming tri-fold device.

Further evidence suggests that Samsung is prioritizing the development of SM-F968N, a version of the tri-fold phone designed for the South Korean market. This has led to speculation that the device could launch as a limited-edition model, at least initially. Last year, Samsung took a similar approach with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. It was released exclusively in South Korea in October, months after the standard Z Fold 6 debuted globally in July.

If Samsung follows the same strategy, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could arrive around July 2025, while the tri-fold device may launch later in the year. However, there’s still a chance both models could be unveiled together. Notably, tipster yeux1111 previously suggested that the Galaxy tri-fold could launch sometime early next year.
