Qualcomm kicked off their annual Snapdragon Summit today in Hawaii. Each year, the chip maker takes to the stage to unveil their latest innovations with their flagship mobile chip tasking center focus. For Galaxy fans, this is an exciting event. We know the next flagship Snapdragon chip will power the Galaxy S25 Ultra in most, if not all, regions around the globe. There was initially some debate about whether the chip inside the Galaxy S25 series would be the Snapdragon 8 Elite or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Qualcomm put those doubts to rest by introducing the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the company’s first Elite series CPU for mobile devices. You can see a slide from the event below.

Snapdragon 8 Elite clear specs

The specifications for the Snapdragon 8 Elite include:

  • Manufacturing Process: TSMC 2nd generation 3nm node
  • CPU: Oryon Cores
  • Performance: – 2 cores at 4.32 GHz – 6 cores at 3.53 GHz
  • GPU*: Adreno 830 – Cache: 24MB L2 cache (12MB + 12MB)
  • Operating System: Android 15 smartphones
  • Storage: UFS 4.0
  • Memory: LPDDR5X RAM support at *5.30 GHz* –
  • Modem: Snapdragon X80 5G
  • Connectivity: FastConnect 7900
  • Wi-Fi: WiFi 7 with AI-enhanced integrated UWB

Impact on the Galaxy S25 Series

Particularly exciting here are the new Oryon cores. The Oryon CPU cores first appeared in Snapdragon X Elite laptops earlier this year, such as the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. We’ve had the chance to test the Galaxy Book 4 Edge over the past 5 months and the performance to battery life ratio is very impressive. According to Onleaks, early benchmarks of the Snapdragon 8 Elite show it scoring 3,025,991 in Antutu, much better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s best of around 2.1 million. There have been concerns about the chip’s thermal performance, but we’ll wait for production devices to make a final determination.

The Galaxy S25 series could be the first smartphone in the US to run these new chips. Stay tuned to the site as we unpack all of the individual specs. Full analysis of what each upgrade means for the Galaxy S25 Ultra will follow shortly. Let us know if you’re excited about the next generation of Snapdragon.
