Samsung’s Next Affordable Flagship Might Not Be So Affordable

by | Sep 12, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Rumors of a price hike for the Galaxy S24 FE are gaining traction, raising concerns among fans. Shortly after a report suggesting the biggest price increase yet for the Fan Edition lineup, another source hinted that Samsung’s upcoming affordable flagship will come with a higher price tag. The device might go official alongside the Galaxy Tab S10 series later this month.

The Galaxy S24 FE might cost more than expected

A few days ago, noted tipster Roland Quandt claimed that the Galaxy S24 FE’s base variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will cost €799 in Europe. That makes it the costliest FE phone from Samsung yet, a whole €100 costlier than the Galaxy S23 FE with the same configuration (€699). A fresh leak now says the device will retail for €749, with the 256GB model priced at €809.

While it’s a smaller hike, the Galaxy S24 FE looks set to cost more than its predecessor. Samsung will probably increase prices in other markets too. In the US, it could cost around $700. When the Korean firm announced the Galaxy S23 FE, it said the device would retail for $599. However, it later sold the phone at $629. Based on this leak, the 256GB S24 FE should cost over $700.

A price hike of around $50 may be justifiable if the rumored upgrades materialize. The Galaxy S24 FE has a larger screen with higher brightness, a bigger battery, a newer processor, and possibly more RAM too. Samsung is equipping the device with an underclocked Exynos 2400, the chipset that powered the Galaxy S24 and S24+. Expect it to support more Galaxy AI features than the S23 FE.

Earlier rumors said the Galaxy S24 FE will debut in October, with the Galaxy Tab S10 accompanying it. However, the new tablets are now rumored to go official on September 26. It’s unclear if the FE phone will arrive on the same day. Samsung is also rumored to launch the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition around the same time. We should get an official confirmation soon.
