Samsung teased a tri-fold Galaxy foldable at last week’s Unpacked event. While the company didn’t reveal anything about the device, an industry source reports that it will not include a digitizer in the display assembly. This could mean no S Pen support, or Samsung has reinvented the S Pen to function without needing a digitizer. We are leaning toward the latter possibility.

Samsung’s first tri-fold may feature new S Pen technology

It’s been a while since rumors about Samsung developing a tri-fold first surfaced. During the Galaxy S25 launch last week, the company finally confirmed that a “multifold” is in its pipeline, though it shared nothing more. Meanwhile, the latest word in the rumor mill is that Samsung will launch the yet-unnamed product alongside its seventh-gen foldables in July or August this year.

Samsung Tri Fold

The said event could bring four or five different folding phones. Alongside the tri-fold, Samsung should introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip FE. There are also slight chances of the second-gen Galaxy Z Fold SE going official on the same day. The Fold lineup could support the S Pen, but not in the same way as current models.

Rumors suggest Samsung is working on a new S Pen technology that doesn’t require a digitizer. This helps make the devices thinner and lighter, something the company has been trying to do with each new generation. According to @PandaFlashPro on X, the current Samsung tri-fold prototype doesn’t have a digitizer.

The device allegedly features a glass back with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, similar to the Galaxy S25 and S25+. It runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, an overclocked SOC powering the entire Galaxy S25 lineup, including the Ultra. More rumors about the tri-fold should surface in the coming months as Samsung expedites its development.
