Samsung is long rumored to expand its foldable smartphone lineup this year. Alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, the company is readying two more models — a tri-fold and an entry-level Flip FE. More details about these upcoming foldables have now surfaced online. It appears the Korean firm has cracked the code to a digitizer-free S Pen.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 may debut new S Pen technology

After years of rumors, Samsung might finally launch a tri-fold smartphone this year. According to leaks, the yet-unnamed phone has a massive 10-inch (9.96 inches, to be precise) screen that folds inward from two places. In practice, you get a highly compact and portable tablet that doubles up a phone as per your need.

A recent report said Samsung plans to make only 200,000 units of this next-gen foldable this year. Popular Korean publication The Elec now reveals that the company will start component production for the phone in the second quarter of 2025. The tri-fold is on track to go official in the third quarter alongside the rest of the foldable lineup. Samsung should unveil the devices between July and August.

Considering the limited production run, the Korean firm may not sell this device globally. It could be looking to gauge the market demand for a tri-fold before deciding whether to step up production or remain conservative. Not much else is known about the new foldable.

Meanwhile, the same source says there is “a high chance” of Samsung removing the S Pen digitizer from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This shouldn’t mean the S Pen itself will be dropped. The company has been exploring ways to make it work without a digitizer beneath the screen. It might have developed some reliable solutions, allowing for slimmer and lighter foldables without removing the S Pen. Expect more leaks in the coming months.
