While all the news and chatter may have had you thinking today’s Galaxy Unpacked event was all about the Galaxy S25 series, that’s not quite the case. Sure, Samsung pulled the wraps off the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, but it also teased the “Project Moohan” Android XR headset. If that means anything to you, it’s still a work in progress. Based on what’s been floating around for a few weeks now, Samsung’s Android XR headset is gearing up to go head-to-head with the Apple Vision Pro.
Samsung briefly teased the “Project Moohan” Android XR headset during Galaxy Unpacked
It was rumored that Galaxy Unpacked could be packed with surprises, and frankly, it kind of was. The surprise, however, was nothing more than a brief mention of the Android XR headset with a teaser photo during the keynote. But at least we know Samsung is making progress on it.
Android XR is a collaboration between Qualcomm, which will supply the SoC, Google, which developed Android XR (operating system), and Samsung. The headset is likely to feature multiple cameras to track your eye and hand movements, as well as your surroundings. It may also run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which boasts a six-core CPU (up to 2.4GHz), an Adreno GPU, and the ability to handle up to 12 cameras simultaneously. On top of that, it might offer 16GB of RAM, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 7 support. The rumored specs are definitely looking tempting.
Since it was only a quick teaser, Samsung didn’t spill the beans on pricing or availability during the keynote. “We can’t wait to share more details later this year,” said Jay Kim, EVP at Samsung. However, The Verge reports that Samsung might release the Android XR headset to developers first, with consumers getting their hands on it later. As for the operating system, Google shared some snapshots a few weeks ago, which you can check out if you’re curious.
