Samsung is likely to reveal more about its XR headset during the same event, hitting the mark just in time. The Android XR-powered promises immersive extended reality experiences with advanced AI capabilities. As if that weren’t enough, Google has let slip some exciting details about how apps will work on Android XR — giving us just a taste of what’s to come.
Android XR-based Samsung XR will feature two app modes
Among the many features XR devices have to offer, what stands out the most is how apps will look. On a new Android Developer page, Google reveals that there will be two app modes: Home Space and Full Space. In Home Space, users can multitask, with the app running alongside others. Meanwhile, in Full Space, the app takes center stage, pulling off the full immersive capabilities of Android XR. You can get a glimpse of these modes in screenshots shared by Google.

But that’s not all. Google also dropped a 6-second clip that gives us a taste of how things will look in action. A closer look hints that Google might have already put the finishing touches on the Android XR since April 2024.
The video showcases an easy-to-use button that allows users to quickly switch between Home Space and Full Space. By default, apps open in Home Space, where you can use them just as you would normally. But if you want a bigger picture or need more space to work, just hit the expand button. This takes you into Full Space.
Needless to say, Android XR seems to hit the sweet spot, offering a solid balance between single-tasking and juggling multiple apps. I’m definitely not disappointed with how Google and Samsung are tackling the competition, especially in comparison to Apple’s Vision Pro. Now, if only the price tag isn’t through the roof, we could be in for a real winner.
