Last week, pop star Dua Lipa filed a lawsuit against Samsung, alleging the company of unauthorized use of her image. The Korean firm has now shared its side of the story, denying any intentional wrongdoing. Samsung says the disputed image came from a third-party content provider associated with its streaming platform.

Samsung blames content partner for unauthorized Dua Lipa image use

Packaging boxes for some of Samsung’s recent TV models sold in the US feature Dua Lipa’s image. The photo appears as part of content available through Samsung TV Plus, the company’s free streaming platform. However, the pop star alleged that the Korean firm used the image without proper authorization and filed a lawsuit, seeking $15 million in damages.

According to the lawsuit, her legal team discovered the unauthorized usage in June 2025. They subsequently sent Samsung a cease-and-desist notice demanding that the company stop using the image. However, the company continued using the promotional material, allegedly benefiting financially from the unauthorized association with the singer.

Samsung has now responded, putting the blame on a content partner. According to a statement provided to Billboard, the image was supplied by an external content provider that distributes programming through Samsung TV Plus. The company says it received “explicit assurance” from that partner before printing the photo on TV boxes.

The third-party content provider in question allegedly confirmed that all necessary rights and permissions had already been secured from the rights holder, including permission for usage on retail packaging and promotional materials. Based on those assurances, Samsung denies intentionally misusing Dua Lipa’s likeness.

The company further added that it remains open to a ‘constructive resolution” with Dua Lipa’s team, signaling that it may prefer settling the matter privately rather than engaging in a prolonged court battle. It remains to be seen how the singer responds.
