Samsung may have just launched the Galaxy S26 series, but it is already being linked to the Galaxy S34. That might sound absurd at first, as the phone likely will not exist for another eight years. However, the reason has little to do with normal smartphone leaks and everything to do with military planning. The Korean Army is reportedly discussing a long-term battlefield modernization strategy with Samsung, and the Galaxy S34 could be part of it.

Galaxy S34 could power the South Korean Army

According to the Korean media, the South Korean Army recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung focused on advanced military communication systems, AI integration, mobile security, and next-generation 5G and 6G battlefield infrastructure. The plan is to deploy tactical smartphones by 2034, which is when the Galaxy S34 should arrive.

Samsung is no stranger to military-grade smartphones. The company has quietly worked with the US Department of Defense, as well as other defense organizations, for years. It has developed several specialized tactical versions of Galaxy devices, such as the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Tactical Edition. Designed specifically for combat environments, these devices include features like encrypted communications, tactical radio support, drone feed connectivity, stealth modes, and off-grid operation capabilities.

Ironically, the South Korean Army hasn’t embraced Samsung tactical smartphones despite being a Korean company. This may finally change in the coming years. Under the new partnership, Samsung and the Army will reportedly work on AI-powered battlefield systems, mobile encryption technologies, and military-grade communication infrastructure capable of meeting Korea’s strict security standards.

The Korean Army aims to finalize requirements for its mobile integrated communication system by 2027 before moving toward procurement and deployment. That final step may take several more years, though. “We have established a development plan for the 5G-based mobile business execution system for defense, aiming to deploy Army tactical phones by 2034,” a military official said (machine-translated from Korean).
