Samsung Galaxy A18 Appears Online, 5G Variant Likely Coming

Samsung has ramped up its preparations for its next budget smartphone, the Galaxy A18. The device has surfaced in the GSMA database with the model number SM-A185F, confirming that development is already underway. This particular listing points to a dual-SIM 4G variant, although Samsung should introduce a 5G model as well. If the company follows its usual launch cycle, both versions could arrive in the second half of the year.
Galaxy A18 appears in the GSMA database as Samsung works on it behind the scenes
Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy A17 5G in August and followed up with a 4G version in September. The devices essentially share the same chassis, but with different internals. Well, not everything is different, but the company swapped the processor, expectedly (the 4G model got an inferior chip without a 5G modem).
Expect Samsung to similarly differentiate the Galaxy A18 and A18 5G. While we do not have any evidence of a 5G model yet, the Korean firm has stopped launching 4G phones in several markets, including the US. The company currently sells the Galaxy A17 5G stateside, so it’s reasonable for it to launch a successor this year.
While specs remain a key factor when choosing a new phone, another trend is quietly reshaping the market: rising prices. Increasing costs of essential components, particularly memory like DRAM and NAND, have pushed production expenses higher, and there’s little indication that this upward pressure will ease anytime soon.
This shift is particularly impactful in the budget category, where margins are already thin. For a device like the Galaxy A18, this could mean a higher launch price than its predecessor, as Samsung balances affordability with rising production costs. To recall, the Galaxy A17 5G debuted at $199 (currently available at $174 — don’t miss this deal, as price could go up anytime). It remains to be seen if the 2026 model keeps the same price tag.
