Samsung Inks Exclusive 3-Year Display Deal for Apple’s Foldable iPhone

Rumors have long suggested that Samsung will supply OLED panels for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The two companies have now reportedly reached an agreement for an exclusive supply deal lasting three years. This is a big win for the Korean firm, as it will not only boost profits but also strengthen its reputation in cutting-edge display technology.

Samsung’s display to power Apple’s first iPhone Fold

According to The Elec, Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s foldable iPhone under a new agreement. The deal covers a three-year period, during which the Cupertino giant will not source foldable displays from other manufacturers.

The outlet further says that Samsung Display first proposed the exclusive contract. Apple accepted the offer due to the lack of strong alternative suppliers that could meet its requirements for a foldable screen. For example, China’s BOE is currently unable to meet Apple’s standards, particularly in areas like durability and yield. Meanwhile, LG Display lacks a proven track record in supplying foldable smartphone panels.

Samsung Display is gearing up to begin mass production of OLED panels for the iPhone Fold in Q2 2026. While the industry estimated this year’s initial supply volume at about 10 million units, the report mentions the figure is lower at around 3 million units. This suggests that Apple is moving with a cautious production plan.

The foldable OLED panels could use the latest Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology to improve durability. This technology eliminates the need for a polarizer layer that can crack under repeated folding. Furthermore, the displays could feature an in-house M14 OLED material set.

Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly hit setbacks in the engineering testing phase for its first foldable iPhone. As a result, the company could face delays in launching the new form factor model. In other words, the rumored September 2026 debut of the iPhone Fold, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, may be pushed back.
