After a slow start, Samsung is now rolling out its August security update. Yesterday, it released the latest security patch for the Galaxy M55 and Galaxy F55. The company has now updated the Galaxy S23 series to the August SMR (Security Maintenance Release). The update is currently available in the US but should soon expand to other regions.

Samsung is rolling out its August update to the Galaxy S23 series

The August SMR is the latest monthly security patch for Galaxy devices. It contains fixes for 50 vulnerabilities, at least two of which are known to be critical security flaws. The majority of the rest vulnerabilities are also labeled high-severity issues by Google and Samsung (monthly security updates contain Android OS patches from Google as well).

These security fixes are now available for Galaxy S23 users in the US. As of this writing, we have come across a couple of user reports confirming the update for the factory-unlocked Galaxy S23 Ultra. It should just be a matter of time before Samsung covers carrier-locked and unlocked units of all three models nationwide. A global rollout should also begin soon.

The August update for the Galaxy S23 Ultra (US unlocked) bears the firmware build number S918U1UES4CXG8. The OTA (over the air) download file weighs 426.45MB. The update is all about security fixes with no additional goodies. Samsung is preparing to roll out a big new One UI 6.1 update with AI features and more, but this isn’t that feature update.

The said One UI 6.1 update should follow later this month. Samsung could even bundle it with the August SMR in some regions. We will keep a close eye on its developments and let you know accordingly. To check for updates on your Galaxy phone, open the Settings app, go to the Software update menu, and tap Download and install. If you don’t see any updates today, wait a few days and check again.
