Samsung appears to be moving closer to reaching a chip manufacturing deal with Qualcomm. The American tech giant’s CEO has visited South Korea to hold talks with Korean Foundry executives. The discussions are likely to center around 2nm-powered Snapdragon chips.

Samsung seems closer to a Qualcomm deal for 2nm Snapdragon production

According to Hankyung, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon visited Korea today (April 21) to meet with Samsung leaders. These include Han Jin-man, President of Samsung Electronics’ Foundry Business. The two companies could discuss plans to make the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (likely referring to the current Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5) using the Korean firm’s 2nm process.

Earlier this year, Amon confirmed that discussions were underway with Samsung about contract manufacturing using the 2nm process. The executive also announced the completion of the chip’s design, suggesting the project is nearing production. His latest meeting with foundry executives might be a step toward finalizing mass production plans.

The 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 already powers several flagship Android devices, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While the chip is already capable of handling powerful tasks such, Qualcomm appears to be aiming for the next level of performance with a 2nm version. It is worth mentioning that TSMC is currently making the 3nm version.

Samsung has been trying to secure a deal to manufacture Snapdragon flagship chips for several years. The Korean foundry last produced Qualcomm’s flagship chip in 2021. Due to concerns about yield and efficiency, the American firm shifted subsequent advanced chip production to TSMC.

Samsung continues to improve its process technology in order to attract major clients again. The company’s 2nm node appears to be a key part of that effort. One example is its $16.5 billion agreement with Tesla to make AI6 chips using a 2nm node. Now, we may see a return of Snapdragon flagship chip production to Samsung.
