Google Photos is a popular app for storing photos and videos, and Google keeps adding more features to it. Now, Google has started rolling out a useful update to Photos app that finally lets users change video playback speed. Earlier, there was no option to increase or decrease the speed while watching videos, which many users found limiting.

Google Photos rolls out playback speed controls for videos on Android

As spotted by Android Authority, Google confirmed through a help page that Android users can now adjust playback speed directly within the Google Photos app. According to the company, this feature was one of the most requested by users, which is why it has now been implemented.

With this update, users can easily control how fast or slow a video plays. To change the speed, simply open a video, press the three dots in the top-right corner and choose “Playback speed.” You will see five options: 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x (default), 1.5x and 2x. Once selected, the app remembers the chosen speed and applies it the next time you watch the video.

While the feature is useful, it would have been better if Google also included additional options like 0.75x and 1.75x for more flexibility. Still, the current options should cover most use cases for users. As of now, Google has not confirmed whether this feature will roll out to the iOS or web versions of Google Photos.

Even though this is a basic feature, it improves the overall viewing experience. It also shows that Google is listening to user feedback and making gradual improvements. Google Photos continues to be one of the best apps for photo and video storage, offering useful features along with cloud storage for users.
