Google Pushes New Android 17 Update for Platform Refinement

Last week, Google released the fourth beta of Android 17, reaching a key milestone for platform stability. The company has now begun its journey into quarterly updates with the rollout of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1. This will further allow the firm to refine the next-gen mobile operating system.
Android 17 QPR1 beta 1 brings a host of bug fixes
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 comes with the build number CP31.260403.005.A1. It is part of Google’s Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) program. These releases happen on a quarterly cadence to fix bugs and improve the platform. The company then delivers these updates to Pixel devices as part of Feature Drops, along with the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). The stable QPR1 for Pixel devices may arrive in September 2026.
Speaking of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1, the build does not bring any notable new features. Instead, it focuses on bug fixes and stability improvements. According to the changelog, the company addresses several issues, including those related to the Default Print Service and the Terminal app. If you own an eligible Pixel device, you can install this update through the Android Beta Program.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also testing the Android 17 build internally with its next-gen custom skin, One UI 9. It is still unclear whether the Korean firm will base its stable release on the final Android 17 QPR1 version. We will know about it later as development progresses. The latest One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2.
Based on speculation, Samsung should kick off its One UI 9 beta program in May or early June. As for the final release, the company could debut it alongside its next-gen foldable devices. This means the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the rumored Wide Fold could ship with stable One UI 9 out of the box. For now, all eyes are on the stable rollout of One UI 8.5 for eligible Galaxy devices.
