Do you like compact, 6-inch phones, or even smaller ones, and wish you could buy one with modern specs? Well, the industry may have already moved on. Reports suggest that smartphone makers are no longer planning to make new 6-inch phones. In fact, future devices may continue to get bigger.

Why is the industry abandoning 6-Inch smartphones?

During the early phase of smartphones, we mostly saw smaller devices that were easier to use with one hand and could comfortably fit in a pocket. However, things have changed in recent years, with brands leaning toward larger screen sizes. The reason is that smartphones have evolved greatly. They now act as helpful companions for most day-to-day tasks.

Tipster Digital Chat Station recently shared what smartphone makers think about 6-inch models. The companies believe that a 6-inch screen is not efficient enough for displaying content. A 6.5-inch screen offers the best balance between comfort and viewing experience. As a result, we may see several 6.4-inch phones by the end of 2026, moving up from the 6.3-inch standard.

Another reason is hardware limitations. The companies struggle to fit a bigger battery and a good camera lens on a small phone. Moreover, rounded edges reduce internal space, which further limits what can be included. The tipster also says that brands currently don’t have plans to introduce 6-inch phones.

Samsung is also moving toward larger screens with its Galaxy S flagship lineup. The newly launched Galaxy S26 features a 6.3-inch screen, up from the 6.2-inch panel on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25. These models (the latter two) saw an increase from 6.1 inches in earlier generations, like the Galaxy S23.

A company executive recently said that display size is driven by what most users want to do on their devices. Activities such as work, streaming, gaming, and content creation are better suited to larger screens. Those who prefer a compact form factor, the executive points to the Galaxy Z Flip series, which becomes pocket-friendly when folded.
