Google now makes Gemini Live, its personal conversational AI assistant, more helpful. The assistant gets a new feature that remembers details from your past conversations to give you personalized responses. This capability appears to have already reached all eligible users worldwide.

You can now personalize your chat experience in Gemini Live

For the uninitiated, Gemini Live is a voice-based feature within the Gemini app. It lets you have natural, real-time conversations with AI rather than typing a query. You can talk freely and interrupt the assistant while it is speaking. Once you give access to the camera, it scans your surroundings and responds in real time based on what it sees.

However, previously, Gemini Live could not remember your past conversations with the AI. Thankfully, Google has now brought this ability, as reported by 9to5Google. On the support page, the company mentions that Gemini Live can use memories of your past chats and info from some connected apps. As a result, the assistant can deliver “more helpful, tailored” responses.

You can check whether Gemini can use the memory of past chats in Settings > Personal intelligence > Memory. By default, this may already be turned ON, so you may not need to take any action. However, to connect your favorite apps for smarter help, you may have to turn them on manually. To do so, head over to Settings > Personal intelligence > Connected apps.

Meanwhile, Google appears to have also updated the about page for Gemini Live. “Ask AI a question and it can securely remember key details that you mention across different sessions, like dietary preferences, important family dates or your favourite hobbies, so you don’t have to keep repeating yourself during future chats,” a section of the page reads.

This is indeed a quality-of-life improvement, as you don’t need to repeat the same information in every chat. Make sure your Gemini and Google apps are up to date to explore the new feature. Note that it is only available in English in the US.
