Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Flip 6 Get a Surprise Update Instead of One UI 7.0 Beta

In a surprising move, Samsung has released a new One UI 6.1.1-based update for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 instead of the anticipated One UI 7.0 beta. The update includes the latest, March 2025, security patch but no other changes. It’s unclear whether this is a routine update or a preparatory step for the imminent beta rollout.

Samsung rolls out March update to Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 without One UI 7.0 beta

Samsung recently announced plans to launch One UI 7.0 beta programs for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 in the US, the UK, India, and South Korea, with the first beta build going live on Thursday, March 6. Users have been eagerly waiting for the update, but it hasn’t arrived as of this writing. The company has now surprised them with a new One UI 6.1.1-based update.

Currently rolling out in Korea, the latest release brings the March security patch. The March update bears the firmware build number F956NKSS2AYBD for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and F741NKSS2AYBD for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The OTA package weighs around 430MB for both models. The changelog confirms this month’s security fixes with no additional changes or functional improvements.

The March security update, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), for Galaxy devices addresses over 50 vulnerabilities, including nearly a dozen Android OS flaws and several Galaxy patches. These are the first two Samsung phones to receive the latest SMR. The Korean behemoth should soon roll out the update to other eligible devices, which also include its Android tablets.

Regarding the One UI 7.0 beta for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, it’s unclear whether Samsung has delayed the launch again. While there’s still time, pushing out a security patch on the same day it promised the first beta update doesn’t inspire confidence. At this point, it almost feels like Samsung is trolling its users. Hopefully, the long-awaited beta update arrives soon.
