Galaxy users around the world are eagerly waiting for Samsung to begin the One UI 7 rollout. The excitement has only intensified following the launch of the Galaxy S25 series last week. While the big update may still be a few days away, the company is keeping users engaged with timely security patches. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy A55 recently received the January 2025 security update.
January update rolled out for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, S23 FE, and more
Over the course of this month, Samsung has updated several dozen Galaxy phones to the latest security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release). Most of the recent flagship models, including foldables, have received this month’s security update. The Korean behemoth is quickly sweeping through the remaining ones before the focus shifts to the One UI 7 update.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 are receiving the January 2025 security update in the US and a few other markets. The update is available for both the carrier-locked and unlocked variants of Samsung’s 2023 foldables. They are picking up the same changelog everywhere. The update is all about this month’s security fixes. Samsung’s January SMR patches more than 50 vulnerabilities, including at least six critical flaws.
The Galaxy S23 FE is also widely receiving the January update, including in the US. The Galaxy A55, meanwhile, never arrived stateside. This premium mid-range model is getting the latest security fixes from Samsung in several international markets where it was sold. It would be only a matter of time before the January SMR is available for all of these devices globally. For some, it could be the last update before One UI 7.
Others, meanwhile, may have to wait longer for Samsung’s Android 15 update. The company should complete the rollout in the first half of 2025. You can check the full list to see whether your Galaxy phone will receive the One UI 7 update.
