After the Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung is rolling out the September 2024 security update to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Like the Fold model, the new Flip is initially receiving the latest security patch in the US. A global rollout should be just around the corner. The Galaxy S24 lineup received it with the big One UI 6.1 update that brings AI features and other enhancements from the foldable duo.
Samsung’s September 2024 update is rolling out to the Galaxy Z Flip 6
As of this writing, the September update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is available for carrier-locked variants in the US. The update is rolling out with the firmware build number F741USQS1AXHC. The OTA (over the air) package weighs around 430MB and brings nothing more than the latest security enhancements. There may be minor bug fixes and software optimizations in tow but don’t expect new features.
Samsung will soon roll out this update to factory-unlocked Galaxy Z Flip 6 units and simultaneously expand the rollout to global markets. The September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) contains 67 vulnerability patches, 44 of which are Android OS fixes from Google, including one critical flaw. The remaining 23 patches are for Galaxy-specific issues and come directly from Samsung.
The new One UI 6.1 update, which is based on One UI 6.1.1 (already available on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6) will roll out to older flagships in the coming days. Older foldables and tablets will also get a big One UI 6.1.1 update. Samsung will probably bundle the September SMR with those releases, as it did for the Galaxy S24 series. This update contains several new features and improvements.
The latest feature release from Samsung clears the way for One UI 7.0 beta. The Android 15-based update may hit the beta channel later this month, with a stable version expected in November. The Galaxy S24 series will be the first to it. Samsung will ship the Galaxy S25 with One UI 7.1 out of the box.
