Google recently made a big change that affects Wear OS smartwatch owners. The popular Google Clock app is no longer available for download on non-Pixel Wear OS devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy Watches. This means only Google’s own Pixel Watch will continue to get updates and new features for the Clock app.

Google Clock is now exclusive to Pixel Watches, dropping support for Galaxy Watch

The Google Clock app combines all your time-related needs in one place. It brings alarms and timers to your wrist, letting you manage them easily right from your smartwatch. Thanks to the latest Material 3 Expressive redesign, it features refined interfaces, improved tiles, and dynamic color for a more modern look. However, Galaxy Watch users will miss out on these new design upgrades.

In a community post, Google wrote, “With your favorite watch brands offering their own default clock apps on Wear OS, Google’s Clock app (alarm, timer, and stopwatch) is no longer available for download on Wear OS smartwatches – except for pre-installed on the Pixel Watch.”

If your Galaxy Watch already has the Google Clock app installed, you can still use it. However, the app will no longer receive updates from the Play Store. And if it isn’t installed, you won’t be able to download it from the Play Store. Instead, Google suggests using the default clock app that comes with your smartwatch or looking for third-party alternatives available in the store.

For Galaxy Watch owners, this should not be a big disappointment, as you get similar functionality from Samsung’s built-in Clock app. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to release the stable One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 6. A few weeks ago, the Galaxy Watch 7 users got a taste of the Wear OS 6 software. This update will also roll out for the Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 4, and Watch FE in the coming months.
