Samsung Could Switch Galaxy S26 FE to a Glossy Back

Samsung may be making a subtle but noticeable change to the Galaxy S26 FE’s rear panel design. The latest industry chatter suggests the device will switch from a matte rear finish to a glossy one. It is reportedly a cost-cutting move rather than anything else.

Galaxy S26 FE may come with a glossy rear panel

The Galaxy S25 FE featured a matte rear panel similar to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S25 lineup. However, the latest leak claims the Galaxy S26 FE will abandon that approach. Instead, Samsung is reportedly opting for a glossy rear panel finish similar to the one used on the Galaxy A57 and many other budget and mid-range devices.

While a glossy or matte finish does not affect performance, battery life, or camera quality, it plays a surprisingly important role in the overall user experience. Matte surfaces generally do a better job of hiding fingerprints, smudges, and small scratches. They also tend to feel less slippery in the hand and often give the device a more premium look.

Glossy finishes, on the other hand, are usually more reflective and can accumulate fingerprints much more quickly. Samsung typically doesn’t make flagships in glossy finishes, so this move comes as a surprise.
