Galaxy Phones Sold Outside Japan Will Finally Support Suica and FeliCa

Samsung has announced a new partnerships, and it will change the travel experience for Galaxy users visiting Japan. The company confirmed it’s working with JR East to bring Suica and FeliCa support to Galaxy phones sold outside Japan starting in 2027.
The announcement comes via Samsung Electronics Japan, which is handling the local collaboration. While that may sound a bit unusual, the end result is what benefits us. Future Galaxy devices will finally work with Japan’s contactless payment system without limitations.
Future Galaxy phones will work with Japan’s Suica system
NFC payments are widely used around the world, but Japan has always been an exception. The country relies on FeliCa, a different contactless standard developed by Sony. Until now, global Android phones haven’t supported FeliCa, even though iPhones have offered it for years.

That’s finally changing. Starting in 2027, Galaxy phones sold internationally will support FeliCa, allowing them to work with services like Welcome Suica Mobile. This means travelers can tap their phones for trains, buses, and even retail payments as soon as they arrive in Japan.
Samsung is also planning deeper integration with Samsung Pay. Users will be able to top up their Suica balance, buy Green Car tickets, and purchase commuter passes directly within the app. This support should benefit both international visitors and users in Japan.
Not all existing Galaxy phones will get this feature. Support is planned for devices launching from 2027 onward, with the Galaxy S27 lineup likely among the first to include it. That would be a big improvement over the current situation.
This is a major step toward making Galaxy devices truly global. It removes one of the last regional barriers and brings Samsung closer to matching the seamless payment experience Apple devices already offer in Japan.
