Google launched their Pixel 9 lineup earlier this week, to quite a bit of fanfare in the Android community. We tuned into the event here at SammyGuru, as it’s always nice to see what the competition is up to. Next year, the Pixel 9 Pro XL vs Galaxy S25 Ultra battle should be interesting. Unfortunately, it appears Google is subverting proper reviews of their new devices. According to several influencers and Youtube creators on X, Google is now mandating that reviews and other content not show preference for any other brand.
Allegedly, this mandate applies to the Team Pixel seeding program for influencers, and not to media review units. This came as quite a surprise, as our Youtube channel was a part of the Team Pixel device seeding program for many years. Google has consistently emphasized that receiving a device in the program did not require any content commitment, but that has clearly changed.
This year, we did not receive an email from Google’s team to opt in for seeded devices, and now we know why. As a website and Youtube channel covering primarily Samsung content, we would not agree to paint Pixel as a superior device. It is quite a shame that this requirement is now in place, as it suppresses honest reviews. Luckily, we preordered the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold using our own funds, so full comparisons will be forthcoming. We hope that Google will reconsider their policy on device seeding to allow for transparent recommendations.
The Pixel lineup offers many appealing features and we weighed in favorably on last year’s Pixel 8 Pro. Just because one user prefers Samsung over Pixel on the whole, does not mean they are anti-Pixel or painting the brand in a poor light. Make sure to stay tuned to the site and Youtube channel as we get our (purchased) Pixel 9 devices in. If you plan to purchase the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro Fold, you can do so at Best Buy.
