Samsung’s August 2024 security update rollout has picked up pace. The update is now widely available for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series in the US. The company should soon expand the availability of the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to other regions. The much-anticipated One UI 6.1 update is still missing.

Samsung pushes August update to Galaxy S24 and S23 in the US

Yesterday, Samsung released the August SMR for factory-unlocked Galaxy S23 phones in the US. The company has now expanded the rollout to cover carrier-locked units as well as the entire Galaxy S24 series. The update is available on most carrier networks nationwide, with the remaining few expected to join the party soon.

For the Galaxy S23 trio, the August security update has the firmware build number S91*USQS4CXG8 (carrier-locked) or S91*U1UES4CXG8 (unlocked). That for the Galaxy S24 lineup is S92*USQS3AXFJ or S92*U1UES3AXFJ, respectively. The update weighs slightly more than 460MB for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, though the OTA (over the air) file size usually varies by model.

Regardless of the build number and update size, the content remains the same. Samsung is pushing 50 vulnerability patches to the devices. The August SMR for the Galaxy family patches one critical Android OS flaw, one critical Galaxy flaw, and dozens of other security issues of varying severity. Other eligible devices will pick up these patches later this month.

As said earlier, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24’s new One UI 6.1 feature update, which brings AI features from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 and camera improvements, is still missing. Samsung was expected to roll out these goodies with the August update but not to be. Rumors say it has been delayed. Hopefully, the company will address whatever problems it’s facing soon and release the update. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
