The Galaxy S27 series is still months away, but leaks are already painting a clearer picture of what’s coming. We’ve now come across a report suggesting that the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could finally bring a long-overdue upgrade to the selfie camera.

Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra may feature upgraded 16MP selfie camera

According to GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a new 16MP front-facing camera. The publication claims Samsung is replacing the 12MP selfie sensor it’s used since the Galaxy S23 series. Details about the upcoming sensor size and lens remain unknown, at the moment.

The 16MP resolution has already sparked some speculation. Samsung could opt for a square sensor that lets users capture portrait and landscape selfies from the same image without rotating the phone. That idea hasn’t been backed by any concrete evidence yet, so it’s best treated as speculation for now.

It’s also unclear whether the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will receive the same upgrade. For now, the rumor only mentions the Pro and Ultra variants. That could mean Samsung plans to keep the new hardware exclusive to its higher-end flagship models.

The selfie camera may not be the only change in store. Earlier rumors have claimed the Galaxy S27 Pro could arrive with a new 50MP telephoto camera offering around 3.5x optical zoom. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, meanwhile, is also rumored to lose its dedicated 3x telephoto camera.

Samsung could unveil the Galaxy S27 series in the first quarter of 2027, so there’s still a long road ahead before anything becomes official. Until then, it’s worth taking every rumor with a pinch of salt.
