It’s been a while since Samsung confirmed it would discontinue the Samsung Messages app in the US. The company first announced the move in July but didn’t reveal the exact shutdown date. Now we finally know, and it’s sooner than you might expect.
Samsung Messages reaches the end of the road on July 6 in the US
Samsung has started sending notifications to users (via Android Authority), saying that Samsung Messages will officially reach the end of its life on July 6, 2026. Since that’s next Monday, users who still rely on the app only have a few days left to switch.

If you’re still using Samsung Messages for your daily texts, now’s the time to switch to another messaging app before support ends. Samsung has already made Google Messages the default texting app on many newer Galaxy phones.
Still, some people have stuck with Samsung Messages because they prefer its design or are simply used to it. With the shutdown date now confirmed, those users will need to make the switch soon.
Switching to Google Messages is quick and easy
If you don’t already have the Google Messages installed, simply download it, open it, and follow the on-screen prompts to make it your default SMS app. Once you confirm the change, all future text messages will be handled through Google Messages.
The process only takes a few minutes and doesn’t require any special setup. Samsung’s latest notification removes any uncertainty about the timeline by giving users a clear deadline. If you haven’t switched yet, it’s a good idea to do so before July 6 so you’re ready when Samsung Messages is officially discontinued.
