Google now makes it easier for Android users to sign digital documents. The company has introduced a new system-level Signature app that lets you insert signatures across supported apps. The feature is rolling out through the June 2026 Google Play system update.

Google addresses Android’s document signing hassles

When it comes to signing documents on Android, you need to rely on third-party apps or use a stylus. Google’s new native Signature app now simplifies the process. The app serves as a central hub for storing and managing digital signatures. Once you save a signature, compatible apps can access it through a signature picker (open in a partial window) so you can quickly sign digital documents.

The Signature app offers three ways to create signatures. You can draw your handwritten signature directly on the screen using a finger. You can also create initials by typing text and selecting font styles. Another way is to upload a photo of a signature written on paper so you can reuse it later.

Google also lets you store multiple versions of your signatures. For example, you may want to save a complete signature, a shorter version, or different sets of initials for different circumstances. Thanks to the dedicated “Manage signatures” page, you can view all saved signatures and remove any that you don’t need.

The good news is that you don’t need the latest Android 17 to use the new Signature app. It is compatible with devices running Android 12 and newer. Since the Signature app arrives through the June 2026 Google Play system, make sure to install the update. On your Galaxy device, you can check for updates via Settings > Software update > Download and install.

As of now, Google has not shared any details on how developers integrate native signature support into their apps. Hopefully, the company will establish use cases for the Signature app soon.
