Samsung Prepares Its Next Budget King: Galaxy A18 Appears with One UI 9

Samsung is preparing to launch several new Galaxy phones later this year, including a number of budget models. One of them is the Galaxy A18, which is expected to succeed the Galaxy A17. Now, the upcoming device has appeared on Samsung’s internal servers, hinting that development is underway.

The Galaxy A18 recently showed up on Samsung’s European test servers with model number SM-A185F. This appears to be the LTE variant of the device, though the company will likely introduce a 5G version as well. The latest firmware spotted on the servers carries build number A185FXXU0AZF2.

The listing also gives us a clue about the software. Samsung is using the SHA256 hash instead of the older MD5 format for this firmware. The SHA256 hash type indicates that the device is using One UI 9 or higher versions. In other words, the Galaxy A18 is running Android 17-based One UI 9 internally and should launch with the same software out of the box.

The Galaxy A18 first appeared on the GSMA IMEI database earlier this year, confirming that Samsung had the device in development. Apart from that, very little information is available right now. The phone has not yet appeared on major certification platforms, and thus its specifications remain unknown.

That said, we can make a few educated guesses. Samsung’s Galaxy A1x lineup continues to sell well globally. So, the Galaxy A18 could offer decent specs like a Super AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, IP54-rated water resistance, a capable camera setup, and long-term software support. As for the chipset, Samsung may once again stick to a very budget MediaTek processor.

There is one potential downside, however. Rising component costs, including memory and chipset prices, could force Samsung to increase pricing for upcoming devices. As a result, the Galaxy A18 could see a price hike despite offering practically similar specifications to the Galaxy A17.
