Samsung Bets on Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) in Revised Shipment Plans

Samsung has revised the shipment plans for its next-gen foldables, which include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide), Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8. The company has reduced its earlier planned shipment targets for the new models. At the same time, it is putting greater focus on the wider book-style foldable.
Samsung lowers shipment targets for its next-gen foldable lineup
According to a report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung now plans to ship about 5 to 6 million units of its upcoming Galaxy foldable lineup this year. This is lower than the earlier estimate of around 6.5 million units. The company may be worried about the recent market outlook, where higher component costs are forcing OEMs to increase smartphone prices.
“Price hikes for new foldable phones are inevitable due to rising prices of components such as memory,” said a source from the parts industry. “Even Samsung Electronics is in a situation where it is difficult to be optimistic about foldable phone sales this year.”
In its revised shipment plans, Samsung aims to ship about 2 to 2.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and around 1.5 to 1.9 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Meanwhile, for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide), the company targets about 1.5 to 2 million units.
Earlier, Samsung expected to ship around 3 million units each of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Flip 8. Now, as you can see, the company has lowered the target, with the next-gen clamshell model seeing a sharper decline. However, the Korean firm is now more optimistic about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) as earlier estimates were about 0.5 million units.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) is the first of its kind in Samsung’s foldable lineup. It is wider and shorter than the upcoming standard book-style Fold, which the company could call the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. All three foldables may go official on July 22 at an event in London.
