Samsung’s next clamshell foldable may not get the charging upgrade many users have been waiting for. A newly discovered certification listing suggests the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will retain 25W wired charging, even as the company is expected to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra with faster 45W charging support. All three models may go official in late July.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 certification points to 25W charging

Ahead of the expected launch next month, Samsung has started obtaining regulatory approvals for its next-gen foldables. We have already seen the device across multiple certification listings, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 just appeared on one more. First spotted by TheTechOutlook, multiple variants of the new Flip recently picked up the SGS certification, including the US carrier-locked and unlocked models.

While the listing doesn’t include complete specifications, it reveals the device’s charging speed. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 seemingly supports 9V charging at 2.77A, which basically translates to 25W of power. If accurate, that means Samsung’s upcoming clamshell foldable won’t receive a charging upgrade over its predecessor, despite increasing competition from rivals.

The certification information arrives shortly after reports suggested Samsung could finally bring faster charging to its Fold lineup. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are likely to support 45W wired charging, up from the Fold 7’s 25W cap. It follows a boost from 45W to 60W for the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 remains stuck at 25W.

Perhaps these are early signs of a bigger shift. Rumors suggest Samsung may eventually discontinue the Flip lineup, with some reports even claiming the Flip 8 could be the final model. If that’s the case, the company may prefer to play it safe with proven charging technology rather than invest in major hardware changes for a product nearing the end of its lifecycle. For now, however, only Samsung knows what the future holds for the Flip series.
