Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.5 update introduced native-style file sharing between Quick Share and AirDrop. What initially debuted with the Galaxy S26 lineup is now expanding to more Galaxy devices. Google recently shared a list of devices getting the feature, though it remains unclear whether the rollout will eventually expand further. More importantly, the company also announced new ways to simplify file sharing with iPhones on devices that lack support for the current implementation.

These Galaxy devices now support Quick Share to AirDrop transfers

According to Google, the following Samsung devices now support the upgraded sharing experience (via X/@Cartidise):

  • Galaxy S26 series
  • Galaxy S25 series
  • Galaxy S24 series
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7
  • Galaxy Z Fold 7
  • Galaxy Z Flip 6
  • Galaxy Z Fold 6
  • Galaxy Z TriFold

At the moment, support appears limited to newer premium Galaxy models with the necessary hardware capabilities and updated Quick Share framework. However, Samsung may eventually expand compatibility further as One UI 8.5 reaches additional devices, especially newer mid-range devices and recent flagship tablets.

For devices with hardware limitations, Google is introducing alternative ways to bridge the gap between Quick Share and Apple devices. One option allows Quick Share to upload files to the cloud and generate a QR code. Anyone can scan the QR code to download the files. Moreover, Quick Share will soon let users send content directly through WhatsApp as part of the sharing flow.

While the experience may not yet be identical to AirDrop’s tightly integrated system-level transfers, One UI 8.5 marks Samsung’s biggest step so far toward seamless Android-to-iPhone sharing. The new upgrades for Quick Share may arrive with One UI 9, which recently entered the beta phase. The Android 17-based One UI 9 update should reach all eligible Galaxy devices before the end of the year.
