Samsung SDS, the IT service unit of Samsung Group, has secured the right to resell ChatGPT Edu to educational institutions. This could allow the company to bring cutting-edge AI tools to schools, colleges, and universities. It is part of its efforts to support AI transformation (AX).

Samsung SDS expands its AI push with a new agreement with OpenAI

For the uninitiated, OpenAI designed ChatGPT Edu particularly for educational use. It offers access to advanced AI models, along with a bunch of tools for data analysis, web browsing, and file uploads. The system also lets institutions create custom versions of ChatGPT for university workspaces.

Korean media reports that Samsung SDS has recently inked a reseller partnership contract with OpenAI. The agreement allows the Korean company to provide ChatGPT Edu to educational institutions in South Korea. It is worth mentioning that last year, the firm also secured reselling rights for ChatGPT Enterprise.

“Based on ongoing collaboration with OpenAI, Samsung SDS will strengthen its role as an AX partner that goes beyond a simple reseller to design, scale, and support AI operating systems for corporations,” said Lee Jeong-heon, executive vice president and head of strategic marketing at Samsung SDS.

ChatGPT Edu is already in use at major universities around the world. Some of these include the University of Oxford, the University of London, the Wharton School, and the National University of Singapore. Now, Samsung SDS plans to expand the service to several educational institutions that want to use generative AI. As of now, it is running a proof of concept (PoC) to bring ChatGPT Edu services to the Korea National Open University.

Meanwhile, LG CNS has also signed a similar reseller contract for ChatGPT Edu. The company plans to introduce the service to major universities in the capital area of South Korea. Moreover, it intends to run AI education seminars to help institutions better understand the service.
