One UI 6.1.1 adds Photo Assist Shortcut and More Features to Gallery

One UI 6.1.1 is a significant update packed with new features and improvements for Galaxy devices. While Samsung has removed a few useful tools, the update still enhances your overall Galaxy experience. If you haven’t already discovered it, the new One UI version introduces changes to the Gallery app. Notably, it brings a new AI button to the photo viewer, an alarm background shortcut, and additional tools in Gallery Labs.

One UI 6.1.1 improves your Gallery experience with new features

If you are unfamiliar with Gallery Labs, it’s a hidden menu of secret features in Samsung’s Gallery app — check out our detailed Gallery Labs guide. One of the most useful Labs features is the ability to move the More button to the bottom bar. It saves you from awkward finger stretches when accessing the wallpaper menu and more in the photo viewer. However, you might want to keep the More button at the top on One UI 6.1.1.

If you move it back to the top, you get a dedicated AI-powered Photo Assist button in the bottom bar. It’s a shortcut to the Generative Edit menu in the built-in photo editor on your Galaxy phone, so you don’t really miss out on anything if you keep the More button at the bottom. However, if you frequently use Generative Edit, you might be better off this way. After all, the More button doesn’t include many features that you may use frequently.

That said, the wallpaper menu under the More button now lets you set photos as an alarm background without exiting Gallery. It’s a new option alongside the existing options to set photos as a lockscreen or homescreen wallpaper or both, call background, and calendar alert background. To change the alarm background, you previously needed to use the Clock app. The traditional method is still around if you are wondering.

Gallery Labs gets new tools too

The One UI 6.1.1 update also adds new features to Gallery Labs. You can now enable/disable sticky data and location for photos or start a slideshow with selected photos. This is different from the existing ability to launch a slideshow of all photos from the Pictures view. Gallery Labs also lets you auto-repeat a slideshow of selected items once the playback is completed.

Additionally, you can now remove the Go to Studio button from the bottom Hamburger menu on the Gallery homepage. The Remote Gallery feature, meanwhile, is gone from Gallery Labs. If you have noticed other major changes in Gallery following the One UI 6.1.1 update, let us know. Samsung has already updated its 2024 and 2023 flagships to the new version. Other eligible devices should get this update soon.
