YouTube Bug Causes Videos to Skip Ahead After Ads

Have you recently noticed videos on YouTube jump ahead after ads? Well, you are not alone. Several users are complaining that, instead of resuming where it left off, the video jumps forward by a few seconds right after the ads finish. The company has yet to officially acknowledge the issue, though it may be aware of it, given the growing number of complaints.
A YouTube bug is ruining the viewing experience after ads
It looks like a weird bug has ruined the viewing experience for free YouTube users. The app triggers the issue when a video plays an ad. After the ad ends (whether you skipped or watched it completely), the video does not resume where it left off. It starts a few seconds ahead, which is frustrating.
The amount of skipped time varies, usually between 10 and 50 seconds. Several affected users took to Reddit and the community forums to report the issue. “So recently, my YouTube has been skipping forward after the second ad in a video. Like it’ll be a 5-second ad that I skip or sit through, and then suddenly I’m 40 seconds ahead in the video,” said a user.
They also updated the app to the latest version, but the issue still persists. This suggests the problem is not because of outdated software. Based on the growing number of comments and reports, the bug appears to be widespread. Hopefully, YouTube will address this issue as soon as possible and restore regular playback.
While subscribing to YouTube Premium removes ads entirely and may help users avoid this issue, it is not a real solution. If you are unaware, YouTube also offers a more affordable plan, Premium Lite. This allows viewers to watch most videos ad-free for $7.99 per month. Meanwhile, Google is offering a 50% discount on YouTube Premium through its AI Pro plan.
