WhatsApp Will Let You Share Channels Using QR Codes

by | Dec 2, 2024 | News, Samsung Apps

WhatsApp is continuously enhancing its Channel feature. Recently, an interesting update was rolled out to beta users on Android, including Galaxy phones. The update enables users to share and follow channels through QR codes.

WhatsApp Beta rolls out a QR code feature to simplify “following” channels

First spotted by the reliable WhatsApp insiders at WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp feature comes with version 2.24.25.7 for Android users. Channel members can generate a QR code via the sharing options. The existing option to share channels via links remains intact, giving users more flexibility.

WhatsApp introduced the Channel feature in June last year, allowing users to receive updates from their favorite celebrities and organizations. While communication flows one way, users can share the content and react with an emoji of their choice. The channels feature delivers content like text, images, videos, audio, and polls, all accessible within the app’s Updates tab.

Scanning the QR code allows users to view and join channels seamlessly, making it particularly effective in face-to-face interactions or marketing scenarios. Channel owners can also print out the QR code for use on posters, posters, or product packaging. Currently, the feature is available to select beta users and is expected to roll out widely in the coming weeks.

If you want to be part of the WhatsApp beta program, you can join by enrolling through the Google Play Beta Program. Once registered, you will receive updates with beta versions of the app, which include experimental features like the newly introduced QR code sharing for channels. Be aware that beta versions may have stability issues, as they are designed for testing purposes before a wider release.

WhatsApp is also testing several other features, including sharing entire sticker packs and colorful chatheads. We will let you know when these features start rolling out to the public.
