Even though the Galaxy S25 lineup has just hit stores, talk of the Galaxy S26 series is already making the rounds. Last week, a rumor suggested that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a UDC (Under-Display Camera). However, a new tipster is pushing back, calling it “highly impossible” for Samsung to introduce an Under-Display Camera on the S26 Ultra.
Galaxy S26 Ultra’s UDC selfie camera is “highly impossible”
Tipster PandaFlashPro has refuted the claims about an under-display camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, calling it a “rumor” and “highly impossible.” They claim Samsung won’t introduce UDC tech for at least another two to three years. If that holds true, we might not see it until the Galaxy S28 Ultra or S29 Ultra, which would launch in 2028 or 2029. Still a few years away, in all fairness.
The tipster also explains that Samsung wouldn’t want to risk “disappointing” users with poor selfie camera quality by removing the punch-hole design. They point out that UDC cameras tend to perform worse in low light or direct light compared to current punch-hole cameras. That’s something they’re mostly right about. Because UDC cameras perform worse in low light and direct light because the display blocks some light, causing noise, glare, and softer images. Punch-hole cameras capture clearer shots in these conditions.
That said, last week’s rumor also mentioned that UDC technology is already present on a prototype display panel. As we previously reported, it’s just a display prototype, not an actual device prototype. This suggests Samsung could be testing the feasibility of UDC panels for future flagships. Usually, Samsung has several prototypes and one of them makes the final product. The Galaxy S26 Ultra isn’t likely to feature one, but it’s still exciting to think about when it might finally make its debut. Because why not?
