If you grew up in the late ’90s or early 2000s, you probably remember the iconic Nokia 3310 and its one must-play game: Snake. The core principle of this game was simple: guide the pixelated snake to eat and grow, and make sure you don’t smash snake’s head into the wall. Now, that nostalgic experience is coming to your wrist, but specifically for those Galaxy Watch smartwatches with rotating bezel. The latest model on the market is the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, which succeeds the 2023 Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.

Fan-made Snake game puts Galaxy Watch’s rotating bezel to good use

A developer on Reddit, u/JackGrylls (via Android Authority) has built a Snake-style game for Galaxy Watches and Wear OS. This project aims to bring back a game that already existed on older Galaxy Watches running Samsung’s Tizen OS. Instead of a rectangular box, the play area is circular and pixelated. This makes efficient use of the circular screen’s real estate. You control the snake by turning the physical bezel. As a result, it offers much better precision than fumbling with your finger on a tiny display.

The game is still a work in progress and has a few bugs. Some Reddit users noticed minor input lag, which the developer acknowledged. He said he only works on it on weekends, so it still needs polishing before release, and there’s no clear launch date yet.

It’s not available on the Play Store, so there’s no official download link. If you’re comfortable sideloading, the project is on GitHub. The concept fits the rotating bezel well. Using the bezel for control is more precise than touch and plays to one of the Galaxy Watch’s most popular features.
