Telstra Rolls Out Satellite Messaging for Galaxy S25 Series

Telstra, an Australian telecommunications company, is rolling out a satellite messaging service to the Galaxy S25 series. Launched in collaboration with SpaceX’s Starlink Direct to Cell, the new Samsung flagships are the first to benefit from its satellite-to-mobile text messaging service in the country.

With Telstra Satellite Messaging service, eligible Telstra customers with a Galaxy S25, S25+, or S25 Ultra can enjoy a new connectivity option to share text messages with friends or family when they are outside mobile coverage. Note that this service performs differently from the mobile network and is currently limited to text messaging only.

However, not all Telstra customers can avail of the service as they must meet some additional requirements as well. To access Telstra Satellite Messaging, you will need a Telstra Upfront Mobile plan (or equivalent Business mobile plan). The company says it plans to complete the rollout of Telstra Satellite Messaging for all eligible customers over the coming weeks.

As far as hardware support is concerned, Telstra has promised to make Satellite Messaging available on more devices in the future, though it has not shared the list of devices or a rollout timeline. On top of that, the company says the satellite-to-mobile capability will expand beyond text messaging to include data and voice calls in the future.

If you are an eligible customer and have enabled the Telstra Satellite Messaging service, you can use it on a compatible device when Telstra’s mobile network isn’t available. However, you must stay within the Starlink Direct to Cell satellite coverage area, with a clear line of sight to the sky. Note that the Starlink satellite coverage area does not include the Australian Radio Quiet Zone in Western Australia and remote offshore territories and islands of Australia.
