Music has always been the heartbeat of road trips, after all, long drives just aren’t the same without a killer soundtrack. Now, Spotify is gearing up to make group listening in the car a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. It’s official: Spotify’s Jam feature is hitting the road with Android Auto.

Spotify is now bringing Jam to Android Auto

At Google I/O 2025, it was announced that Spotify Jam will soon roll out to cars equipped with Android Auto and Google built-in systems (via Android Authority). Spotify Jam allows multiple people to control a shared playlist in real time. That means passengers can add, skip, or swap songs from their own phones without ever reaching for the dashboard. This feature is already a hit on phones, and now it’s finally hitting the road.

Spotify Jam Android Auto

Up until now, Spotify Jam was only available via the Spotify app on phones and tablets. But soon, you’ll be able to fire up a Jam session directly from your car’s infotainment screen. Once a session starts, a QR code pops up, allowing others in the vehicle to scan and join from their phones. This hands-free approach means even backseat DJs can steer the playlist.

It’s part of a broader push from Google to supercharge media apps in the car. The company is rolling out new tools designed to make apps more interactive and driver-friendly. Spotify is among the first to take the wheel with these updates, which include a revamped “Now Playing” screen and smoother ways to explore music while keeping your eyes on the road.

Spotify Jam will begin rolling out on Android Auto in the coming months, with support for Google built-in cars expected later this year. It’s a solid move that will let Spotify stay a step ahead of rivals like Apple Music. Apple has a slimiar SharePlay feature, but it’s limited to Apple’s ecosystem.
