Spotify could let you discover and play songs based on what you see through smart glasses. The company appears to be working on deeper integration with Gemini for the upcoming Android XR eyewear. The feature could use Google’s AI assistant to understand your surroundings.

You could soon play music based on what your smart glasses see

It’s no secret that Spotify has been laying the groundwork for Android XR glasses integration for quite some time. As development progresses, more details have now come to light, suggesting that the company is preparing to redefine how users experience music through wearables.

While digging through the Spotify app (version 9.1.66.1259), folks over at Android Authority uncovered clues for a Gemini-powered experience in Android XR smart glasses. A code string reads “Connect your Gemini account to create playlists with your voice and discover music inspired by what you see.”

This suggests Spotify will build a deeper connection between its music platform and Gemini. Another string highlights the ability to “play music inspired by what you see”. Thanks to cameras built into Android XR smart glasses, Gemini could analyze users’ surroundings, letting Spotify recommend suitable tracks.

For example, if a user wearing Android XR glasses is looking at a beach or a sunset, Gemini could understand the scene and help Spotify pick music that matches the environment. As a result, users will be able to enjoy playlists that naturally fit the moment.

Furthermore, the integration could also make playlist creation easier. A voice command like “Hey Gemini, make a playlist with all my favorite artists” could allow Spotify to quickly create a personalized playlist.

As of now, it’s unclear when Spotify will announce its Gemini-powered music experience. However, with Samsung and Google’s first Android XR smart glasses set to launch this fall, the company could be getting its integration ready ahead of the devices’ debut.
