Samsung’s Latest Tri-Fold Patent Shows More Folding Angles and a Peek at UI

by | Feb 3, 2025 | Galaxy Z, News

At Galaxy Unpacked last month, Samsung confirmed it may indeed be working on a tri-fold (or possibly multi-fold). Unfortunately, it didn’t dive into the details, offering only a silhouette of what’s on the horizon. However, over the past few months, a steady stream of leaks and rumors has surfaced, suggesting that a tri-fold is definitely in the works. What’s more, we’ve seen a surge in Samsung’s tri-fold patents recently. A newly filed patent has even revealed the folding angles for the upcoming Galaxy tri-fold, which is rumored to be branded as the Galaxy Fold G.

Samsung patents yet another tri-fold concept, showcasing UI and folding angles

The good folks at Patently Apple spotted a new Samsung tri-fold patent, which they’ve kindly broken down for us. According to their analysis, this patent shows a tri-fold design with multiple cameras and a smart display system. FIG. 1 shows a setup where the device can capture images from different angles. FIG. 6 highlights a user interface that allows users to easily switch between cameras.

Additionally, FIGS. 8 and 9 show how the device morphs when folded or unfolded. As expected, it looks like it can function as a regular smartphone when closed, but expand into a larger screen when opened. Samsung has been at the foldable game for a while now, and this could be the next big step in making phones more functional. Of course, as with any major tech company, Samsung files and gets granted many patents, though not all of them make it to the finished product. But sooner or later, some of them do.

There’s chatter suggesting that Samsung could debut the tri-fold at the second Galaxy Unpacked event, alongside its Galaxy Z siblings. However, another report hints it might take a bit more time for the final product to hit the shelves. On a related note, Huawei’s Mate XT is gearing up to go global. If Samsung plays its cards right, it could grab a bigger slice of the market, especially since, as impressive as Huawei phones are, they’re still not running Android.
