Han was born in 1962. He studied electronic engineering at Inha University before joining Samsung Electronics in 1988. He joined the development team of the video division and worked on improving TV technology. Over time, people recognized him as an expert in the TV field. In November 2017, Han became the head of Samsung’s video display division. Under his leadership, Samsung continued to dominate the global TV market. Due to his achievements, Samsung promoted him to vice chairman and CEO in 2021. In his new role, he oversaw Samsung’s consumer electronics and IT/mobile businesses.

Just days before his passing, Han spoke at Samsung’s 56th shareholders’ meeting on March 19. He talked about Samsung’s future and shared his plans to grow the company. He said Samsung would continue to take on new challenges in several areas, including robotics, medtech, and next-generation semiconductors, to secure new growth engines driven by the growth of the AI industry.

Jong-Hee Han was also supposed to give the keynote speech at “Welcome to Bespoke AI,” a major Samsung home appliance event, on March 26. However, after his sudden heart attack, another executive from the DA business division will take his place as the keynote speaker.
